[A new article entitled “Can enhanced external counterpulsation as a non-invasive modality be useful in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy after coronary artery bypass grafting?” written by Amr A, Abdelwahab and Ayman M. Elsaied at Al- Hayet Cardiology Centre at Tanta University, in Tanta, Egypt, has been published in The Egyptian Heart Journal. This randomized study enrolled 42 patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) post coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and demonstrated the successful use of EECP therapy to relieve or improve the symptoms of angina or heart failure when combined with medical treatment. Teh EECP group received 35 sessions of EECP in addition to their medical treatment and the control was limited to medical treatment only. When the groups were followed up for 3 months, EECP treated group (n=20) showed a marked improvement in a reduction of the frequency of angina, their need for sublingual nitrates per week and re-hospitalization needed when compared to the control group (n=22), despite similar severity of symptons in both groups.
